Gerald Anderson finally set the record straight regarding his relationship with actress girlfriend Julia Barretto, saying all is well between them.
The actor addressed the breakup rumors hounding them during his interview with actress-TV host Toni Gonzaga, as seen on the latter’s YouTube channel on Sunday, June 1.
The speculations arose after eagle-eyed netizens noticed that the couple have not posted each other on their respective Instagram pages for quite some time.
“Everyone thinks that you and Julia have broken up,” Gonzaga said, to which Anderson clarified, “No, we’re okay.”
“I drove her to the airport [before this interview]. She is flying to Dubai,” he added, further stressing that Barretto did not remove their photos on her Instagram.
Anderson then lamented how others hastily make conclusions based on a person’s social media activities. “It’s sad that it has become the public’s basis.”
Nonetheless, the actor admitted that his relationship with Barretto had encountered challenges but he stressed that they are all worth it.
“[It has been] five years. There were many bumps in the road but I think they are all blessings because it made us even stronger. When you go through something like that and you see that your partner is emotionally strong, you know that it was worth it,” he added.
Further speaking of Barretto, Anderson continued, “She has the poise, the grace, the maturity. There were even times when it felt like she’s more mature than me.”
He also credited the actress for teaching him the value of “partnership” in a relationship, describing her as loving and “motherly.”
When asked by Gonzaga about settling down, Anderson said he is already at the stage where he is thinking about it. The latter even noted that his dad wants Barretto to be Anderson’s end game.
“Thirty-six na ako. Kailangan ko na ng anak,” the actor said. (I’m already 36. I already need to have children.)

On being labeled ‘cheater, womanizer’
During the interview, Anderson was also asked about his thoughts about some people accusing him of being a cheater and a womanizer.
“Alam niyo kung sino ang mga naging girlfriends ko e. ‘Pag sila ‘yung girlfriend ko, sila talaga,” he said. (You all know my past girlfriends. I was loyal during my relationships with them.)
Gonzaga then made a follow up question, “Hindi ka nag-cheat?” (So you didn’t cheat?), to which he firmly responded, “No.”
Anderson opened up as well about his past relationships, admitting that the “failure” of those were mostly on his part as he had “selfish reasons.”
“I could have been a better person, a better partner. I should have been better,” he said.
He also disclosed that he had thoughts of quitting show business five years ago.
While he did not mention of anything specific, the actor was apparently referring to the cheating allegations and his controversial breakup with his former girlfriend Bea Alonzo.
Talking about the reason why he did not leave the industry, he said, “I cannot feed my family with their negative comments. And what kind of person would I be if I quit?”
“But I’m not saying that it was not hard. It was very heavy. It was very hard,” he stressed. /edv
