DC Studios finally released the official trailer for “Superman,” showing David Corenswet in his titular role apparently drawing criticisms while “doing good.”
The about three-minute trailer, released on Warner Bros. Philippines’ channel on Wednesday, May 14, begins with Corenswet being interviewed by Rachel Brosnahan’s Lois Lane. The former gets battered with questions about him coming under fire for his actions.
“My actions? I stopped a war,” Corenswet argues, as Brosnahan points out the consequences of him illegally entering a country and bypassing the president while “seemingly acting as a representative of the United States.”
“I wasn’t representing anybody except for me…and doing good,” says a worked-up Corenswet. “People were going to die!”
The trailer then shifts to the villain Lex Luthor and The Engineer, respectively portrayed by Nicholas Hoult and Maria Gabriela de Faria, coming face to face with Corenswet and his dog Krypto.
“He’s not a man,” Hoult says of Superman. “He’s an ‘it’ that’s somehow become the focal point of the entire world’s conversation.”
“I will not accept that!” he exclaims.
Featured were other characters Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), Guy Gardner/Green Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) and the new villain Hammer of Boravia.
“Superman” is directed by James Gunn, who “takes on the original superhero in the newly imagined DC universe with a singular blend of epic action, humor and heart, delivering a Superman who’s driven by compassion and an inherent belief in the goodness of humankind.”
The highly anticipated film is set to premiere in Philippine theaters on July 9. /ra
