JL Gaspar — best known as JL in the P-pop boy group PLUUS — dropped his new single “Alon” while gearing up for his debut in the upcoming K-pop group AHOF.

“Alon,” which was officially released on Friday, June 6, is a pop track recorded by JL in 2024 before he auditioned for “Universe League,” a Korean reality competition show launched last year to create a global boy group. He eventually emerged at the top spot.

“This emotional pop anthem serves as both a heartfelt farewell to his time with PLUUS and a meaningful introduction to his new journey as a member of an upcoming K-Pop group, a position he earned after excelling on the popular K-Pop survival show Universe League,” Universal Records Philippines said in a press release.

According to the label, “Alon” describes the feeling of “painful uncertainty” of drowning in love with no escape. It features the lyrics, “Ako’y nalulunod / Hindi makaahon / Sabihin mo kung ano ba talaga kasi / Ano bang meron satin / Na hindi mo masabi / Kailan ko malalaman / Kung nalulunod ka na rin sa akin.”

Despite being the sole Filipino contestant in “Universe Ticket,” JL’s journey was nothing short of successful as he topped the final rankings with 3,168,841 votes. This makes him one of the debuting members in the boy group project AHOF (or All-time Hall of Famer).

Also included in the final lineup are Steven, Seo Jeongwoo, Cha Woongki, Zhang Shuaibo, Park Han, Park Juwon, Chih En and Daisuke. Managed by F&F Entertainment, the group will reportedly debut in July.

Dubbed as the “Nation’s Giant Center” by fans, JL is also known as a member of PLUUS. He announced his departure from the group in September last year to focus on his “Universe League” stint.  /ra
