James Reid and TJ Monterde are teaming up for the first time with the folk-pop ballad “Pahinga,” set to be released on Friday, June 6.
The duo announced their collaboration on their respective Instagram pages and shared photos from their photoshoot against the backdrop of a forest.
“Sometimes, all you need is a little Pahinga (rest). This song has been blessed with [@tjmusicmonterde],” Reid captioned his post.
Monterde, on the other hand, wrote in his caption, “Tayo, layo, pikit mga mata (Us, distant, close the eyes),” adding the song’s release date.
In an interview with Billboard, Reid and Monterde stated that the song is about one’s attempt to take a break during a relationship conflict—not to give up but to protect the love.

Monterde, who is fresh from the success of his song “Palagi,” shared that the lyrics of “Pahinga” are something he felt he would write in the first place.
“The message is also very clear to me: ‘Pahingi lang ng isang minuto, mataas lang emosyon ko ngayon. But after all this, mahal pa rin kita.’ (‘Just give me a minute, my emotions are just running high right now, but after all this, I still love you.’)”
Reid, whose old song “Randomatic” recently went viral on TikTok, mentioned that he has always wanted to collaborate with Monterde since last year.
Monterde sang a rendition of Reid’s “Randomatic” during his two-night sold-out shows earlier this year. He is currently on his first world tour, recently performing in the US and Canada and is set to perform in Australia and New Zealand in October.
Meanwhile, Reid, who recently released his single “Hurt Me Too,” also teased that he is set to return to acting with a new film centered around music.
“The project will be very close to my heart, very close to what I’ve gone through, both in the industry and show business, but also through life these past few years as a musician, so definitely there’s music involved,” he told ABS-CBN late last year. /edv
