Former actress-singer Lindsay Custodio lodged a violence against women and children (VAWC) complaint against her estranged husband Frederick Cale, citing the sexual, emotional, verbal, psychological and economic abuse she allegedly suffered during their marriage.
The “That’s Entertainment” alum was accompanied by her legal counsel Heyz Meking when she filed a case for violation of Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence against Women and Their Children Act before the Quezon City Prosecutor’s office on Monday, June 2. The former actress filed a similar complaint in 2024 but it was dismissed.
In her complaint, a copy of which was furnished INQUIRER.net, Custodio narrated the “unusual behavior” of Cale since their 2020 engagement, saying the latter had been adamant in immediately setting a wedding date and “insisting that the invitation should mention that [they] prefer cash gifts.”
She further shared incidents when Cale supposedly forcefully took from her their wedding cash gifts despite her opposition, and when he “dragged” her to the bank after their wedding to withdraw the gift checks and deposit it to their account so he can access it.
At the bank, Custodio claimed that Cale also demanded her to withdraw all the money from her personal account to “cover his credit card expenses.”
She added that Cale would “verbally demean” her and her two children from her previous marriage, several instances of which were even witnessed by other people. Custodio stated as well that two days after their wedding, Cale left for Canada as he had “no plans to cohabitate with [her] or fulfill [their] marital relationship.”
When he returned to the Philippines in 2023 for a brief visit, Custodio said Cale continued to verbally and emotionally abuse her, and even “forcefully imposed himself sexually” on her.
Custodio stated in her complaint as well that Cale, who already stopped supporting her financially, had relationships with different women in Canada while they are married.
“I have the truth in this,” Custodio said in a “TV Patrol report. “[This is the] first step to my healing.”
Custodio was previously married to Tanauan Vice Mayor Julius Caesar Platon II, who died of a heart attack in 2018. She then got married to Cale in 2022. The pair then made headlines after Custodio revealed her alleged “traumatic experience” during the wedding day.
Cale filed a cyberlibel complaint against Custodio in 2024. He also lodged a perjury complaint against her, but it was dismissed.
He has yet to publicly comment or reach out to Custodio regarding this matter, as of this writing. /ra/edv
