Dimples Romana opened up about the weight of bringing the true-to-life double murder case story of the Maguad family to the screen in a two-part Mother’s Day special of the anthology series “Maalaala Mo Kaya” (MMK).
Romana shared the trailer for the first part on her Instagram page, describing the story as the “most difficult and painful” that she had to bring to life.
“Whenever Alonzo would ask me what I do for a living. I say, I’m a storyteller, anak. I tell stories for a living. All kinds of stories. This story in particular is by far the most difficult and most painful story I have ever had the privilege of telling,” she wrote, referring to her second child.
“Kapag naging magulang ka, ipinagdadasal mo na humaba pa ang buhay mo para makasama mo ng matagal ang mga anak mo. Pero paano nga ba kung mauna sila sayo? The unimaginable pain of losing a child. The Maguad family story has left a mark in my heart that will never go away,” continued the actress.

Romana then thanked the production for helping her bring justice to the story that mirrors “betrayal, kindness, compassion and humanity,” as she extended her kind words to every parent who experiences losing a child.
“My heart goes out to the Maguad Family and all the parents today of children who have been mindlessly and or brutally killed just like Gwynn and BoyBoy. May everyone find peace,” she concluded in part.
In December 2021, Gwynn, 18, and her brother Louis “Boyboy” Maguad, 16, were found brutally murdered inside their home in Bagontapay, North Cotabato, while their parents were away.
The family’s adoptive daughter, Janice, 16, claimed that she survived by hiding during the attack and initially reported that masked intruders were responsible for the siblings’ deaths.
However, days later, Janice confessed to the murders, citing “envy and hatred” as her motive. She was sentenced, along with her accomplice, who was also a minor, to 22 to 37 years of imprisonment.
